ONE of two prisoners who escaped from Rockhampton Showgrounds while undertaking supervised work is from Mackay.

Levi James Brown, 24, has been named as one of the two prisoners currently on the run after escaping about 11.45am Monday.

It is believed low-security prisoners from the Capricorn Correctional Centre were helping set up the Rockhampton Showgrounds for the annual show this weekend when they escaped.

It was reported at 2pm that dog squad crews have caught a scent of the two prisoners.

A Queensland Corrective Services spokesman said Levi James Brown is serving seven years for aggravated armed robbery.
