James ‘Moggy’ Mogford, a young Mackay mogul with a number of businesses under his belt, is hoping to transform a 2,023sqm property on Beaconsfield Rd into a series of townhouses and units by the end of the year.

Mr Mogford said his company had the property at 46 Beaconsfield Rd in mind for development for 10 years, but “it didn’t suit our portfolio at the time”.

Now however, Mr Mogford is hoping to get some units built and “help the housing crisis”.

James Mogford also does off-road racing with his brother and won the Australian SXS championship last year.

The complex will hold four one-bedroom units each occupying a floor of two separate buildings, as well as four three-bedroom, two bathroom units.

The final two units will be two bedroom, two ensuite duplexes.

Town planner Michael Jewell said the homes will accommodate single residents and small families, therefore 10 covered parking spaces for residents and two for visitors will be sufficient.

“The intent of the project is to provide housing options, conveniently located close to schools, shops and other community activities,” Mr Jewell wrote.

Each unit will be accessible from Beaconsfield Rd via a 6m wide driveway and will also be fitted with a 7,000l water tank for stormwater detention.

Development will require the removal of a house and shed already located on the site.

A three-bedroom house and shed already on the land will need to be demolished.

Mr Mogford said he hopes the Mackay Regional Council will support the development, which could break ground in June/July.

“It’ll be exciting to release this to the public,” Mr Mogford said.

The development will likely generate up to four new full time jobs at Moggy’s Development.
