Bowen will score 32 new affordable homes after developers were granted approval to break ground.

Housing charity Blue CHP first proposed the construction of units at 27, 29, 31 and 33 Queen’s Rd back in 2023.

Now approved, Blue CHP has applied for a development permit to start construction for operational works like water and sewage infrastructure, site access, parking and more.

Michael Jewell of Jewell Planning wrote on behalf of CHP the proposed development will feature a three level unit block.

“Each unit contains a kitchen, dining and living rooms including a balcony/outdoor living area,” Mr Jewell said.

“Each unit is provided with a private balcony or private garden to cater for open space outcomes with an additional communal area provided on the ground floor.”

Ground floor units will have two bedrooms.

Designs show four two bedroom apartments on the ground floor and 28 one bedroom units across the rest of the development.

The sleek and refined complex will be accessible via King St and cover the 2,024sqm lot at Queens Rd, previously unused.

All other units will be one-bedroom apartments with their own kitchen and dining spaces as well as private balconies.

As a condition of approval Whitsunday Regional Council have required Blue CHP to provide a minimum of 33 car parks and Mr Jewell said they intend to include four disability parking bays in the development.

Blue CHP claims since 2008 the company has delivered more than 2000 affordable, disability-friendly, and social homes.

The company has developments in Brisbane and across NSW including North Ryde and Liverpool in Sydney.
