Free Choice Tobacconist Sarina sells second winning lotto ticket in seven months

A new store open less than a year is earning a reputation for being lucky after selling its second division one Lotto winner, this time to a woman who still clocked in to work.

A Sarina woman will head off to work despite becoming a multi-millionaire overnight.

The woman won $10m in a division-one lotto draw on Tuesday, but despite being the only winning entry, she said she and her partner were still going to work.

“We have to go to work today, we don’t want to let our teams down, so I don’t think we’ll be able to call in sick,” she said.

“This is a life-changing win for us, it’s come at the best time.

“We’ve had a tough few months, so this will help us so much.

“It means we can get our dream home, and I can help my parents retire, which is a dream come true.”

The woman bought the winning ticket at Free Choice Tobacconist on Broad St, Sarina, which sold its second division-one winner in seven months.

Free Choice Sarina owner Miranda Roberts said the store was becoming a lucky spot.

“It’s not our first winning ticket we’ve had,” she said.

“We sold a Saturday Gold Lotto ticket in August last year, so we’re pretty excited to have another one here.”

The shop, which opened in May 2021, sold its first winning Lotto ticket to a Sarina resident last year.

The woman, who won on August 14, 2021, claimed $797,532.27 and said she would pack a caravan for a trip around Australia.

“I’ve been playing those numbers for years and years; they're special numbers, birthdays and anniversaries,” the woman said when she won.

“It’s amazing that they’ve been drawn.”

Tuesday night’s winning numbers were 16, 28, 37, 41, 5, 7, 9 with supplementaries 31 and 35.

Ms Roberts said she was not sure who the second winner was.

“We were notified this morning, but all we were told was that the winning ticket was sold here,” she said.

“This is our second one since we opened, so now we’re lucky hopefully people come here for their tickets.”

It is the latest in a string of Lotto wins for the region, with a Mackay woman winning $25m in a November draw.

“Oh my god, I’ve won $25 million?” the Mackay woman questioned on being told she was one of two to secure the major prize pool on November 2, 2021.

“Are you serious? Holy sh*t This has got to be wrong!

“Oh my god. Honestly? This is crazy.

“This cannot be true. Oh my god. Are you sure it’s me? Really? Are you sure? Is this real?

“This is crazy. This is so cool.”
