A popular back road will be closed for almost five months after Mackay Regional Council approved planned upgrade works.
The Glenella-Richmond Rd will be shut to traffic between mid-August and December.
Mayor Greg Williamson said the road needed repairs between Mackay-Habana Road and Holts Road.
“The council understands that the section of road is a popular travel route as it provides an alternative to the, at times, busy Mackay-Bucasia Road,” Cr Williamson said.
“As part of the upcoming rehabilitation works, the road will also be widened and culverts works completed.”
About 2500 motorists use the Glenella-Richmond Road every day to gain access from the northern suburbs to the CBD for work and school.
It is expected the traffic flow on the Mackay-Bucasia Road will be affected, with delays anticipated for nearly five months as the works are completed.
Nearby residents are told to expect some noise and dust disturbances with maintenance equipment on site, but appropriate controls would be undertaken to minimise any impacts.
