The secret to running a successful business is to sell high-quality products that are not sold anywhere else.

A small ice cream shop in Sarina has discovered that formula, and has enjoyed a successful opening two months of business.

The Little Ice Cream Shoppe manager Janet Latham said the secret was in the soft scoops.

“All of our ice cream is gluten-free,” she said.

“Most ice cream stores will only sell one or two different flavours of gluten-free ice cream, but it’s all we sell.”

The Little Ice Cream Shoppe boasts 24 flavours of gluten-free product, and Mrs Latham said “there aren’t any other stores like this in Sarina”.

“All of the ice cream comes from Golden North, which is also a family-owned business in South Australia,” she said.

“It’s important to have really good quality ice cream sold, and we’ve found we’ve had a lot of interest in the community and have people coming in and then coming back.”

The store also sells waffles and hot dogs, with both being “a big hit”.

“The waffles have been a popular product from the start, people like having their ice cream on top of one,” Mrs Latham said.

“The hot dogs came in about a week after we opened, just to offer something else and they’ve been popular as well.”

Mrs Latham said opening the store had been seamless with the community’s support of the business.

“It’s been great to have the community really support us, everyone here is like a big family and they want to see the business do well,” she said.

“We get anyone from locals and tourists, parents, kids, grandparents and families coming in, and everyone has been so great.”
