Laffos bar and pizzeria adds Maleny Food Co ice cream range
A newly renovated Mackay restaurant is raising the bar on its offerings with a new ice-creamery offering exclusive and delicious flavours.

A beloved Mackay bar and pizza restaurant is boosting its delicious offerings, serving up a sweet new menu.
Laffos Bar and Pizzeria opened an ice creamery on Monday last week and Mackay residents have already started devouring the selection of creamy flavours.
The ice creamery stocks Maleny Food Co gelato and sorbet, which is an Australia award-winning gelato wholesaler.
The gelato and sorbet combines rich Guernsey milk, locally sourced fruit and the finest Italian ingredients.
Laffos Bar and Pizzeria co-owner Mark Laffin said the ice creamery was the next step for his family business.
“I like ice creamery – that is the main inspiration,” Mr Laffin said.
“We want to keep trying new things and keep adding bits and pieces.
“We did a bit of research on it and the Maleny company seemed to be very popular, with good service and they made it easy for us.”
He said he had lost about half his business because of Covid-19 through lost bookings and reduced trade.
“Everyone has had their hours cut, we have (also) had to which is a shame,” Mr Laffin said.
“My biggest Monday to Friday during the daytime market is 55 to 70 year old retirees who are not coming out.
“They have just disappeared.
“When there is a family event and a few people are not vaccinated, they do their function at home.
“It is the small bookings of 10 to 12 that are just not happening at the moment.”
Laffos was closed for renovations in October last year, and opened on November 3 with a 50 per cent increase in their floor space and new additions to their existing dessert and cocktail menu.
Mr Laffin said the renovations were in the works for three years, but Covid-19 delayed their plans.
“We were going to pull the trigger on it quite a while ago, but Covid came along and we got very scared about spending a lot of money on business,” he said.
“Hospitality, it seems, was the industry the government used to try and pull people into line for behaviour.”
He said he planned to continually upgrade his restaurant, with a possible fresh food market on his mind.
“I would like to do a market type thing,” Mr Laffin said.
“It would be a fresh food market with a cafe type thing.
“It is just an idea at this stage.”
