Popular Mackay restaurant Laffo’s closes up for wake of COVID victim
A popular Mackay restaurant is closing its doors for the afternoon after the tragic death of a staff member’s father from COVID.

Popular restaurant Laffo’s Bar and Pizzeria will be closed on Wednesday afternoon.
Head chef Michael Angeles sadly lost his father Boy Angeles to COVID on May 3 in the Philippines.
Laffo’s owner Mark Laffin said staff were saddened by the news and wanted to support Mr Angeles.

“It’s a sad time because of the border closure, and it’s a hard time to be by yourself,” Mr Laffin said.
“We will be shutting Wednesday afternoon from 5pm to have some drinks and a wake.”
Mr Laffin said Mr Angeles had been working in Australia to support his family in the Philippines and was devastated by the news.
Mr Angeles will take some time off while the restaurant will resume normal hours on Thursday.
