Drive-through grocery pick-ups and a pet treat bar are just some of the exciting novelties awaiting residents at the new Andergrove Coles.
The new shopping complex will open on Saturday, equipped with some of the newest shopping innovations.
They include Queensland’s first click and collect drive-through service which starts on Sunday, and the increasingly popular pet pick-and-mix bar and tap and go coffee station.
The Andergrove Village Shopping Centre anchor tenant will also employ 85 retail staff and 125 people through its operations, after more than 100 construction jobs were created during the build.
Store manager Daniel Ryan said he was excited to welcome new customers into the brand new centre.
“It is exciting, we have a lot of new things here to offer our customers,” Mr Ryan said.
He said two particular sections were created for those busy shoppers on the go.
A “food for now” section stocked with salads, sandwiches and a $2 fresh coffee station is at the front of the store, while a “food for later” area sits just behind packed with Coles’ refrigerated “ready-made meals”.
Among the usual deli and fresh produce section the store features an upfront bakery where shoppers can watch their bread being kneaded and baked.
“It will be great for the kids can see how it’s all made,” Mr Ryan said.
Mr Ryan said the store had 125 employees, including 17 Indigenous team members who had participated in Coles’ Indigenous pre-employment training program which aims to recruit, train and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander team members, and provide mentoring for the first six months of their employment.
Incorporated into the healthy snack bar is a ‘sweets’ section with sugar coated lollies ready to be scooped and packed.
The click and collect drive-through service is the first of its kind in Queensland and allows customers to collect their online grocery orders without leaving their car.
The centre itself has been built with sustainability in mind, featuring 276 solar panels, a 1.2 metre reduced ceiling height, smart-system airconditioning and doors on all upright refrigerators.
The store also offers free recycled carry boxes.
A Subway, Burger Urge, Byrnes Cafe, Liquorland, Pink Nails, Extra News are some of the additional stores opening in the facility.
Residents are invited to celebrate the grand opening on Saturday at 8am.
