Katter’s Australia Party to cut ties with controversial Senator Fraser Anning

CONTROVERSIAL Queensland Senator Fraser Anning has been disendorsed from Katter’s Australian Party after his push to restrict “non-European” migration.

SENATOR Fraser Anning has been disendorsed from Katter’s Australian Party this afternoon after his controversial push to restrict “non-European” migration.

It follows the Courier-Mail last week revealing the party’s federal executive had already come close to revoking his place in the party and had put him on notice.

Senator Anning said he was disappointed in the disendorsement, which he said he was not informed about in advance.

He also denied he had been warned against speaking about predominantly European immigration, saying that was an attempt to rewrite history.

“At the time I made my maiden speech, Bob said he supported it 1000 per cent and Shane Paulger and KAP backed

me. I haven’t changed my position but it seems that they have.” Senator Anning said.

“How can calling for a plebiscite on a predominantly European immigration program be “pure gold” when I

gave my maiden speech on 14 August and somehow “racist” two months later?”

It follows Senator Anning’s controversial move last week to propose a bill for a plebiscite calling for a ban on Muslim immigration and restricting “non-European” migration to Australia.

Mr Katter said it was personally difficult to remove Senator Anning from the party, which he only joined in June, but his views on race were unacceptable.

“I could not have made it more clear. If you go down this pathway or use any of those phrases again, you do so at your own peril,” he said.

“Clearly Fraser wants to pursue a crusade. It’s not the KAP’s crusade. He wants freedom, we should give him his freedom.”

Mr Katter said he had not personally spoken to Senator Anning today since the party’s Federal executive made the decision to disendorse him, but the party’s president had.

“Fraser is a friend. We had cattle stations not far away from each other... this is not a happy day for me,” he said.

“I didn’t know he had a particular bent this way.”

Mr Katter said he “exploded with rage” when Senator Anning moved his motion calling for a plebiscite to restrict “non-European” migration and it had not been run by the party.

Senator Anning had previously been counselled on using that language and was told after the speech it was his last chance.

But this week Senator Anning put a press release to the party executive for approval, seeking to explain the speech, but it once against drew distinctions between “Europeans” and “non-Europeans”, Mr Katter said.

He had previously backed Senator Anning’s maiden speech, which praised the White Australia policy without specifically naming it.

Mr Katter rejected suggestions he shift in positions on Senator Anning followed the Labor party indicating it may preference the LNP ahead of him in the seat of Kennedy.

“I’ve been winning elections for 45 straight years. Bring it on Buster Brown,” he said.
