KAP considers cutting ties with Fraser Anning

SENATOR Fraser Anning’s future with Katter’s Australian Party is hanging by a thread after the party’s executive threatened to disendorse him. The rogue senator has been put under increased supervision with strict instructions while his future is decided.

Anning's anti-Muslim motion rejected by Senate

SENATOR Fraser Anning’s future with Katter’s Australian Party is hanging by a thread after his “race-baiting” plan to restrict non-European migration ended with the party’s executive threatening to disendorse him.

A crisis meeting of the party executive on Thursday evening came close to removing him from the party — and he could still go within weeks.

SENATOR’S ‘RACE BAITING’ BILL CONDEMNED

KAP president Shane Paulger said they granted him a stay of executive for a few weeks while a strict review is conducted, during which time he has been told to drop comments about restricting non-European migration or blanket bans on Muslim migration.

The review will include interviews with his senior staff and increased supervision and oversight of statements from his office by the party, Mr Paulger said.

He said the initial reaction was to disendorse Senator Anning as his views did not reflect the party’s, but they did not want a knee-jerk reaction.

“If it does continue down that line, it’s obvious what the consequence will be,” he said.

EARLIER: KAP CONSIDERS CUTTING TIES WITH ROGUE SENATOR

KATTER’S Australian Party Senator Fraser Anning’s future with the party will be decided this afternoon, as party executives move to cut ties with the rogue Senator.

KAP founder Bob Katter has personally warned Senator Anning against further racially charged speeches, telling him “no more going down this road”.

He would not rule out the party cutting ties with Senator Anning, who joined KAP in June.

The Courier-Mail can confirm the KAP Federal management committee, will hold a meeting this afternoon to discuss disendorsing Senator Anning.

The committee includes Mr Katter, his son Robbie Katter as Queensland leader, president Shane Paulger, as well as the party secretary and four members from NSW and Queensland.

Mr Paulger said Senator Anning had been repeatedly warned about his “European migration” stance.

“I have said if this continues there’s no place for Fraser in our party. It appears my words have gone unheard,” he said.

Leaders must speak out against racism: Frydenberg

“We have spoken to Fraser about this and it continues to happen. I’ve got Bob’s full support.

“I feel very, very strongly on this issue. This European talk is nonsense.

“This is not what we stand for. There’s so many good things migrants have brought to this country, it’s ludicrous to say they have to be European.”

Mr Katter said he did not support a blanket ban on Muslim migration to Australia, as proposed by Senator Anning today.

“We declared clearly that we are an anti-racist party,” he said.

“The president of the party has rung me with his concerns. I have rung him today with my concerns.

“(We told Senator Anning) there’s no more going down that road.”

It follows Senator Anning “race-baiting” Bill for a plebiscite to ban Muslim immigration and restrict non-European migration being rejected without support in the Senate.
