TRAEGER MP Robbie Katter says the State Government was playing politics on the back of Senator Fraser Anning’s controversial maiden speech, after the Premier this week issued the party a staffing “ultimatum”.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk asked the Katter’s Australian Party’s MPs to justify why they should have extra staffing allowances following Senator Anning’s speech, that all but called for a return to the White Australia policy and a ban on Muslim migration.

Opinion: Pauline Hanson’s reaction to Fraser Anning speech speaks volumes
Mr Katter said the Premier’s ultimatum were a “serious threat to our democracy” in Queensland.
“Those resources are appropriated by the people of Queensland so that there’s diverse representation in the Parliament and I think people appreciate having alternate views in the Parliament,” he said.
“It’s not for any one government to come in and say we don’t appreciate your point of view so we’re going to take resources or funding off you.”
Mr Katter, who said the Premier had written a letter to the party seeking their position on immigration by 5pm today, dismissed claims the party had five staff at Parliament - it has three.
“I might remind people that we have three private members bills in this Parliament,” he said.
“The LNP have 21 staff and have 0 private members bills.”
When asked how the potential staffing cuts would affect the party, the MP said you’d be better off asking his constituents.
“If we don’t have those staff we can’t do disallowance motions,” he said.
“All that sort of activity requires resources.
“I think the taxpayer gets wonderful value for their money.
“I think the Premier is running a very dangerous line here of punishing rural Queenslanders.
“They’ve already increased our electorate sizes and now they’re talking about reducing resources.
“Everywhere we walk here they keep trying to tie our hands behind our back.”
