‘Karen of all Karens’: Neighbour ignites feud over barking dogs

A Brisbane woman has taken to social media to vent her frustrations after a neighbour left a string of notes berating her “brainless mutts”.

An Aussie dog owner has shared her anger online after a neighbour anonymously sent threatening letters criticising her control over her “stupid mongrels”.

A Sherwood woman shared two notes from a neighbour calling out her dogs for their supposed non-stop barking to Facebook alongside a lengthy post explaining the situation.

“If you insist on having dogs (especially a big one) in a unit the size of a large toilet – get the stupid brainless mutts a barking collar each and have a bit of consideration for others,” one note read.

A follow up note threatened to report the dogs to authorities unless the barking ceased.

“This is your last warning, your stupid mongrels bark non-stop, all day,” it read.

The dog owner defended her pups, claiming her neighbour’s assertions were unfounded and her dogs were well looked after.

“I work from home full-time five days a week,” the woman posted on Facebook.

“I decided to work from my dance studio once last week and went to the mall over the weekend for a few hours without putting the bark collars on them.

“Our previous five-bedroom home with a double garage and large wraparound yard to accommodate our dogs shot up in rent, hence we now live in a small two bedroom unit with a courtyard.

“If you’re so passionate about having an opinion on where I should live, please feel free to find me a larger home and pay my rent, until then, on ya bike.”

The woman claimed to know the identity of the letter writer, referring to them as the “Karen of all Karens”.

“You’ve always had something to say about my dogs after I confronted you about your dog barking constantly at night,” the woman wrote.

“You open your doors wide open have a full on yarn with your mates on the phone so the whole neighbourhood can hear.

“My own next door neighbours have voiced to you that your voice is worse than my dogs.”

Commenters warned against confronting the anonymous neighbour.

“This is a threat, call the police,” one commenter wrote.

“Not all neighbours are respectful or responsible even when you yourself have the best intentions, just be careful,” another wrote.

Brisbane City Council’s website states dog barking becomes a nuisance when it “unreasonably disrupts or inhibits activities” but noise from time to time was normal and acceptable.

“If the animal continues to make noise after you have discussed the noise nuisance with the animal keeper and they have had at least 28 days to resolve the problem, you can report the issue to Council by phone … or write to Council online.”
