Temperatures have plunged up to 9C with overnight minimums in many parts not climbing above 10C as a cold snap grips southern Queensland.
Queensland’s coldest place overnight was Applethorpe, which only got to 5C, while it was a chilly 7C in Amberley and 11.3C in Brisbane.
All three locations recorded their coldest mornings so far this year.
“For a lot of people, compared to the very mild temperatures recently, this morning was a bit of a shock,” Felim Hanniffy, senior meteorologist at the Bureau of Meteorology, said.
“In comparison to what we saw yesterday, morning temperatures were anywhere from 6-9C cooler this morning.”
Tonight, it could get down to 9C in Ipswich and Toowoomba, while it will be 11C in Mt Gravatt, Logan, Kenmore and Oxley.
Brisbane will fall to 12C after a daytime maximum of 25C before temperatures return to average from Wednesday.
“It will still be around average for parts of the southern interior and west of the Darling Downs but everywhere else is back to above average by Wednesday and then, as we get to the more latter parts of the week, it’s more broadly above average overnight minimums across the board,” Mr Hanniffy said.
