Three teens – one just 13 years old – have been charged after a 57-year-old man was allegedly violently beaten, robbed and left with serious injuries at a shopping centre in Ipswich.

Police allege a 57-year-old Moggill man got out of a vehicle at Goodna Marketplace on Smiths Rd before he was approached by two males, who were not known to him, around 5am on February 18.

The Courier-Mail has been told the man is the owner of Goodna Place Fruit Market.

Police will allege the two males then assaulted him, demanded the man’s car keys and fled the area in his Toyota and with some cash.

A staff member of a local business said the man had been “kicked in the head” several times.

The man was allegedly assaulted behind the Goodna Place Fruit Market.

After further investigations in the day since the alleged attack, search warrants were executed at properties in Goodna and South Brisbane, where police found and arrested three people at an address at Carina Heights this afternoon.

The Toyota Corolla was also found and will undergo forensic examination.

Both boys have been refused police bail and will appear before Richlands Children’s Court on February 20.

Investigations are continuing and detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Another local business said it was not uncommon for juveniles armed with weapons to be harass locals in the carpark.

Goodna Place Fruit Market and Goodna Marketplace declined to comment.

Political candidate Helen Youngberry wrote on social media said she would be calling on centre management to “up their game” in terms of security measures “otherwise another poor family is going to lose a loved one”.

She also encouraged locals to avoid parking their cars undercover.

The alleged robbery comes just weeks after a separate and unrelated incident, where grandmother Vyleen White was allegedly killed at Town Square Redbank Plains Shopping Centre on February 4.

There is no suggestion these youths are accused of any involvement in that incident.

An Ipswich community leader revealed she had organised a centre management meeting on Wednesday morning and a youth crime forum on Thursday night.
