Plans have been revealed for a lavish farmstay-style wedding venue — complete with waterfront views and luxe entertaining spaces — now in the works for southeast Queensland couples.

Choosing a wedding venue may soon be made easier for southeast Queensland brides and grooms-to-be, with plans to open an extravagant but rustic farmstay-style facility at Ipswich now in the works.

The owners of 189 Tallegalla Rd, Tallegalla — Dusan and Cornelia Cech — last week lodged an application with Ipswich City Council to build Lakewood Estate about 300m from the street by a large lake.

Plans for the development feature a 499sqm building with a main event room, commercial kitchen, small office, and bathrooms, to be accompanied by a freestanding pavilion on the water’s edge with 20sqm of roofed space and an open grassed area — all of which will cater for weddings with a maximum of 120 guests.

“The design philosophy adopted for the site is of a form of building in keeping with the rural nature of the site in aspects of form, scale, materials pallet and colour scheme,” the plans read.

“The buildings are small in scale (less than 500 sqm), adopt a roof pitch consistent with rural heritage buildings and are designed to be neutral in the landscape and allow the natural beauty of the site to be dominant.”

Driveways and 34 car parks are to be located on the southern side of the venue with access from Tallegalla Rd.

Guests and their relatives who wish to stay on-site before or after an event will have their pick of eight overnight cabins and get to enjoy the native gardens and rural lifestyle Tallegalla is known for, surrounded by animals such as cattle and horses.

The venue is intended only to be used for events such as weddings and will not be accessible to the general public for casual bookings.

According to the plans, the outdoor spaces will be “integral” to Lakewood.

“The design provides for the venue to be set back approximately 30m from the water’s edge to allow for outdoor garden weddings and events,” the plans read.

“A gentle slope and manicured lawns will feature in this area as well as gardens to showcase native plants to attract bird and bee life.”

Events operating outside, either on the lawn or the pavilion, are to be brought indoors after 9pm to prevent excess noise.

If the plans are approved by the council, the venue will operate seven days per week from 6am to midnight with “strict controls” on outside activities and noise levels. Trading past midnight to 1am may take place two to three times per year for special occasions such as New Year’s Eve.

It is the expectation of the site’s owners that the proposed venue will benefit the communities of Tallegalla, Rosewood, Marburg and surrounding areas as it will be one of “very few” facilities of its kind in the Ipswich region.

“We would also be bringing a new space to the local community as there are plans to host community functions on the site such as charity balls or long table lunches to showcase local produce,” the plans read.

The application is now being considered by Ipswich City Council.
