A Lowood man has been charged by police over an alleged arson attack which destroyed three police vehicles at a rural police station.
Lawyers acting for Justin Wayne Adams, 40, appeared in the Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for a first mention of the allegations.
The Lowood man was arrested on Wednesday, November 23, and charged with arson, endangering property by fire, breach of bail, possessing drug utensils and urinating in a public place.
Police will allege Mr Adams attended the Lowood Police Station just before midnight on November 2, where he poured accelerant on a police vehicle and set it alight.
The alleged fire engulfed two further vehicles – raising concerns the rural station would struggle to adequately perform its duties.
A quick response from firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to the station itself, according to a Queensland Police spokesman.
However the station’s three vehicles were allegedly destroyed – a damage bill estimated to be more than $350,000.
In court, duty lawyer Matthew Fairclough said Mr Adams was not intending to apply for bail at this stage.
He will return to court on December 14.
