A rural Queensland woman has faced court accused of shooting at a car that was allegedly “chasing” her husband southwest of Brisbane.
Kristy Lee Murphy, of Mount Walker West, appeared before the Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, November 24, charged with offences including going armed to cause fear and committing acts intending to cause grievous bodily harm.
The court heard Ms Murphy’s husband was allegedly being “pursued” by three people hell bent on finding evidence he had committed a crime.
“This included hiding in long grass beside their house,” Ms Murphy’s lawyer said.
Prosecutors alleged the vehicle was driving in the Mount Walker West on March 5 when it was struck by a bullet fired by Ms Murphy.
“I heard a loud bang and felt something hit the car. It sounded like a tinnie bang,” one of the occupants would later tell police.
In court, Ms Murphy’s lawyer asked the court to allow him to cross-examine the occupants of the vehicle saying their “ambiguous” statements undermined their credibility.
“Each of the complainants were committed, it seems, to pursuing Mr Murphy for some time,” he said.
“The accounts they’ve given are quite irreconcilable.”
Magistrate Jason Schubert told the court he would consider the application and reserved his decision to a later date.
Ms Murphy will next appear in court on December 7.
