Neighbours of a murdered Gailes father have shared their grief after the dad-of-two was shot and killed outside his house.
A woman who lived on the same street said Christopher Anderson, 38, was about to take his fiancee out for dinner when a car full of men arrived at his home with a gun on Saturday afternoon.
The neighbour, who asked not to be named, said a babysitter had already arrived to look after the couple’s two-year-old son.
Moments later, Mr Anderson was fatally shot in the chest.
“ (Mr Anderson and his partner) were a young couple very much in love and engaged,” the neighbour said.
“A family has been torn apart.
“He was about to take (her) out for dinner.”
Another neighbour saw the moment Mr Anderson was shot.
“If he hadn’t followed them back out, he would still be alive,” the witness said.
“He was just trying to protect his family.”

Police said a silver Commodore wagon arrived at the Old Logan Road home before 4pm on Saturday afternoon.
Mr Anderson was sitting outside at the time.
Acting Detective Inspector Heath McQueen said four males got out of the car and approached the house, where they spoke with Mr Anderson.
“A conversation has occurred and, shortly after, the males have entered the dwelling with the victim,” Det Insp McQueen said.
“During their time inside the house, a dispute has occurred, where it is alleged one of those males has discharged a firearm into one of the internal walls inside the house.”
The men ran from the house, back to the Commodore, where another dispute broke out.

“One of the male offenders has discharged a firearm and struck the victim in the chest.”
Paramedics were unable to save Mr Anderson’s life, despite working on his injuries for more than half an hour.
Police declared the address a crime scene and, as of Monday morning, were still on scene.
A Queensland Police spokesman said investigators were awaiting autopsy results.
Detectives urge anyone with information to come forward and have released photos of three people who could help with the investigation.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
