An Ipswich man has tragically died following a horrifying crash at Milbong on Monday afternoon.
The man, 24, was a passenger in a white Isuzu D-Max travelling along Ipswich Boonah Road, when it veered off the road and into a tree about 4.30pm.
An Ipswich police spokesman said the passenger had been thrown from the vehicle before he tragically died at the scene.
“It’s not yet known if speed was an issue, investigations into the cause are ongoing,” he said.
“It is concerning the man was flung from the vehicle, it will be looked at whether he was wearing a seatbelt or not.”
“It was a tragic accident.”
The spokesman could not confirm if the passenger and driver were related.
The driver of the car, a 17-year-old boy also from Ipswich, was flown to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Forensic Crash Unit investigators are still working to determine the circumstances of the crash.
“It can take some time to determine the cause of single vehicle accidents,” the Ipswich police spokesman said.
Police have urged anyone with information or dashcam footage of the Ute to come forward.
A Queensland Police spokeswoman said both lanes were shut near the Hansen Road intersection and traffic was heavily impacted.
The road reopened about 1am.
