Major alleged $1.7m drug farm bust west of Ipswich

Two large cannabis farms west of Ipswich worth an estimated $1.7m were raided by police leaving five people facing multiple drug charges.

A group of men charged with a number of drug offences related to the raid has their case mentioned in Ipswich Magistrates Court today, Wednesday, May 18.

Chi Vu, Huan Pham, Quang Ba Le, Tuan Anh Pham, and Hoang Van Vu were charged with producing dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs and possessing anything used in the commission of a crime.

Their matters were adjourned to Thursday, May 19.

The Crime and Intelligence Command’s Drug and Serious Crime Group, Ipswich Tactical Crime Squad, and Laidley police uncovered the rural drug farm at two properties on the in the Lockyer Valley on Wednesday and Tuesday, May 17.

State Drug Squad Detective Acting Inspector Stephen Thiry said police allege the crops were used by a criminal syndicate for large scale production.

Detective Acting Inspector Thiry said police would allege it was a substantial cannabis production “and we will continue targeting and dismantling such productions and the illicit proceeds of criminal syndicates given the risk they pose to the community”.

A Queensland Police spokesperson said a Redwood Drive property at Brightview allegedly had

four greenhouses containing 4,581 cannabis plants, hydroponic growing chemicals, and irrigation.

“Police also seized 28 kilograms of dried cannabis located in a shed on the property,” the spokesperson said.

“Five men, two 27-year-olds, a 46 year-old, a 36-year-old and a 21-year-old were charged with producing dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs and possessing anything used in the commission of a crime.”

Police also searched a Boyces Road Mount Tarampa property and allege they found, “a greenhouse with a sophisticated hydroponics system and a further 144 cannabis plants were seized”.

As part of the investigation, detectives executed a second search warrant on a Boyces Road

Those charged are due to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court Wednesday, May 18, for their first court mention.
