An Ipswich school student has reportedly undergone scans for brain damage after he was violently attacked by a high school peer.

A parent of a student at Redbank Plains State High School posted anonymously in a Facebook community noticeboard group seeking footage other students may have had of the moments her son received an apparent 10-20 punches to the head in a schoolyard attack.

The mum said the violent incident happened on Monday, October 23 at the school and had left her son with significant injuries to his face and head, and that she needed footage to determine the exact number of blows to his head after the boy suffered extensive swelling and bruising.

“Being a high school and the way children are with there (sic) devices, I have obtained recordings of immediately after the assault and I desperately need the footage of the assault to see exactly how many times my son was punched in the head and face due to the amount of swelling …” she wrote.

“My son said it was between 10-20 punches.”

A comment on the post, updating on the boy’s condition claimed that he was being taken for CAT scans to determine if there were any bleeds on his brain.

A spokesman for the Department of Education confirmed the incident was being investigated.

“The Department of Education is aware of an incident which occurred at Redbank Plains State High School on Monday, 23 October,” the spokesman said.

“The school contacted parents of the students involved and is providing ongoing support to the student and their family.

“The school has investigated the incident and applied appropriate consequences in line with the school’s Student Code of Conduct.

“No further information can be provided as the incident is currently under police investigation.”

A spokesman for the Queensland Police Service confirmed the incident was under investigation.

The Department of Education further said that the school had a zero-tolerance policy for bullying and violence, though many parents on social media said it was still an issue.

“It’s (violence) why I’ve busted my balls to keep my son away from there next year when he starts high school. I would rather home school,” one wrote.

“This has been going on for years,” wrote another.

“One of my children had a problem with bullying multiple times I was at that school and nothing was ever done. But if you wear the wrong jumper or shoes they are straight onto it.”

“Redbank high has always been like this … even when I attended and I’m now 38yrs (sic) old,” wrote another.
