A historic Ipswich suburb could welcome a new “multi-generational” childcare facility, featuring more than 130 spaces, after developers revealed the mega plans for the centre.

The Australian Post-tel Institute lodged the development application for The Eastern Heights Childcare and Community Centre on 26-28 Lloyd George St on February 13.

As part of the plans, the centre could host 136 children from birth to five-years-old as well as a multi-use community space for mothers groups, playgroups and other similar activities.

The land, formerly owned by the Anglican Church Southern Queensland, has had development applications in place for more than half a decade and came complete with approvals for a seven-day childcare centre, when it was sold for in 2017.

The Australia Post-tel Institute have sought to remove the existing buildings on the land associated with the former place of worship and planned to build an expansive single-storey centre, consisting of eight activity rooms.

Green space and existing foliage will be a focal point of the development, with a planned 1000 sqm allocated for outdoor recreation, and a 39-space carpark will be located at the front of the property.

Eastern Heights is home to several high-end historic buildings and homes, including two mansions, built in the 1800s, and to the popular Limestone Park.

The developers label the proposed centre as a “multi-generational” space, which will greatly benefit the surrounding community.

The application is currently under review by the Ipswich City Council.
