Plans for a new Guzman y Gomez fast food outlet have been unveiled for a shopping centre in Ipswich.
Guzman y Gomez (GYG) Australia submitted a development application to the Ipswich City Council last week for the new outlet at 2-8 Smiths Rd, Goodna.
The new store would form part of the Goodna Marketplace shopping centre – formerly known as St Ives shopping centre.
Ipswich is currently home to two GYG outlets – one in North Ipswich and one in Augustine Heights (approximately 17.5km and 9km from the proposed Goodna location respectively).
A planning report, prepared by SLR Consulting Australia said a new Goodna Marketplace location would “provide valuable services and convenient facilities” for the local community.
It further noted the outlet would generate ongoing employment opportunities for Ipswich locals, and additional employment opportunities throughout construction – which is projected to cost over $1 million.
The proposal outlines plans for the new GYG to be built in a section of Goodna Marketplace that is currently used for 38 parking spaces – near the Red Rooster and Pizza Hut chains presently at the site.
As the proposal includes plans for seven new parking spaces (including one disability space), the development would therefore result in a net reduction of 31 spaces from the shopping centre.
The application also requests permission for 24/7 trading and a drive through service that would include a dual lane order point and two waiting bays.
As the proposed location is already in use as a shopping centre, the new outlet would benefit from the existing access roads, public transport access, and stormwater management infrastructure.
The planning report notes the proposed location will also help “minimise adverse impacts on environmental values” as a result of its existing use.
It does not project any significant increases in traffic flow, with the expectation that most customers are likely to be shopping centre visitors.
The application is currently in the confirmation period and is awaiting council approval.
