Book Week is a chance for schools and libraries across the state to celebrate all things literary – all while having a blast.

Ipswich’s brightest minds at West Moreton Anglican Junior College put on a spectacular parade on Thursday, August 25.

The whole school turned up to support and cheer on their fellow students who were donned in their finest literary costumes.

Head of junior school Kirsten Mullan said it was always an exciting time for students.

“At WestMAC we inspire children to discover their potential including fostering a love of reading, with a key event in our annual calendar, being Book Week,’’ Ms Mullan said.

“Book Week is a vital avenue to ignite the imagination and creativity of children through dressing up in costumes.

“Their eyes are opened to the many different characters and stories in the rich world of reading, especially when taking part in our wonderful parade co-ordinated by our College Library Team.

“WestMAC’s experienced and dedicated teachers ensure books and storytelling are the focus of our whole school event so children not only have fun but are also developing their literacy skills at the same time.’’
