The race to the finish line was predictably tight for Gympie’s top doctors, but there could only be one winner.

Though all 15 nominees received a slice of the people’s choice pie, it was Dr Marian Campbell from The Gympie Clinic who came in first place with 19 per cent of the final votes.
The mother of three, who has been practising in the region since 2008, finished ahead of Dr John Manton in second with 13 per cent, and Dr Chris Black of Channon St Medical Centre was hot on his tail in third with 12 per cent.

Dr Campbell was quick to thank her patients, and the voters who helped her on the way to taking the top prize.
“There’s a lot of lovely, lovely patients of mine who have taken the time out to vote and I’m very grateful to them,” she said.
“I like the fact that I’ve been in town now 13 years and I like the fact I’ve built up a lot of really good relationships with my patients and their families.
“Having that ongoing involvement with families, local Gympie people for that amount of time is really special.
“That’s what I enjoy about Gympie, it’s a country town. I grew up in country towns so that’s where I wanted to work.”
Dr Campbell credited her colleagues at The Gympie Clinic for working together to create an enjoyable team environment at work.

“We’ve got a number of doctors here, but it’s still a patient-focused clinic. I like working in a team of doctors, we’ve all got families ourselves and we’re very supportive of each other,” she said.
“I like the team approach.”
