“All our meat’s cooked for a minimum of eight hours. Consistency is a big key for us, trying to make sure the burger they get today is the burger they’re going to get tomorrow.”

The talented duo only opened their one of a kind dining sensation in Gympie last September, but already The Bunker Smokehouse and Bar have claimed bragging rights as the makers of “Gympie’s Best Burger”.

In a tight competition full of worthy contenders, Jarrod and Lauren Dangley and The Bunker team pulled away to win the competition run by The Gympie Times throughout the week.

After originally finding huge success with their catering company Beauty and the Beard, the husband and wife team have already cemented themselves among the Gold City’s top destinations for top quality eats in the nine months since they opened The Bunker.

Jarrod was chuffed to take the Best Burger title, crediting his expanding team for the result.

“It’s good to have a base. It’s allowed us to get bigger in the catering world, and it’s really nice to put everything we’re doing out in the field into a restaurant,” he said.

“It’s awesome to have a great team. I’ve got about 15 with me now.”

With a tantalising menu featuring Pulled Pork & Slaw, Smoked Barbeque Chicken and the “BFC” (Bunker Fried Chicken) burgers among the top choices, Jarrod said it was his signature BBQ Beef Brisket Burger that consistently ranked as the Bunker’s best.

He said it took a long process behind the scenes to ensure the same quality burgers produced at the Bunker from day to day.

“All our meat’s cooked for a minimum of eight hours. Consistency is a big key for us, trying to make sure the burger they get today is the burger they’re going to get tomorrow,” he said.

“That’s the number one thing. It’s gotta be the same burger.

“The Brisket’s definitely the number one. We just introduced a new one called Noah’s ark. It’s got two of everything on it, just like the ark.”
