Farmer Wants a Wife may dominate Australian TV screens from year to year, but it’s “Cheeky Charlie” – the lonely and extra woolly Mary Valley Bachelor – who really needs a partner right now.
The two or three-year-old ram has called Kenilworth’s Kookaburra Park home for the last few months, but owners Adam and Emma Dickson say Charlie has struggled to fit in with the other animals there.
Largely ignored by the park’s population of deer, goats and pigs, Charlie has often been left by his lonesome at his new home, and now Adam and Emma are hellbent on getting him a female friend to help him “mow the grass” … among other activities.
“He’s been here for about four months, this old couple were putting him up on Facebook trying to get rid of him because he wasn’t getting along with their ram,” Adam said.
“They’d actually rescued him, before that he was double his size in wool and he was all mangy and couldn’t really move about.
“We keep him in the cattle grid on weekends when we have guests because he gets a bit headbutty, and he gets really stroppy with us when we let him out on Mondays, and he keeps asking for a wife.
“We’re looking for a girl to help mow the grass with him during the week.
“He’s neutered, so he can do it all with no repercussions.”
Asked what Charlie was looking for in his ideal partner, Adam said the young ram was not being too picky with his quest for companionship.
“I think he’s looking for someone with a bit of energy to wander the hills with him,” he said.
“He might be into the cougars, we’re not sure.
“He gets ignored by the deer and the goats, and he tries to be friends with the pigs but they’re not interested in him. He’s really quite lonely, everyone else has a partner.”
