Three key Gympie environmental groups to share in $50k council grant

The winning groups were announced and endorsed at last week’s Gympie Regional Council meeting, with funds totalling $52,215.

Three key Gympie environmental groups will get a huge boost in the form of more than $50,000 worth of Gympie Regional Council grants.

ANARRA Gympie Wildlife Rescue, Gympie and District Landcare Inc and the Mary River Catchment Coordination Association were announced as successful applicants for Environmental Levy Community Group Grants at last Wednesday’s council meeting.

ANARRA were successful in applying for food and medical supplies for native wildlife, Landcare for Messmate Park tree planting/weed management breeding, monitoring and release of biological controls, and the Mary River CCC for a Waterwatch Program Calibration, purchase of testing equipment, educational materials and wages for program supervision and data management.

A second round of grants opened to community groups “that were able to demonstrate a contribution to the four priorities of the Environment Strategy 2018” in April.

The four priorities were:

1. Biodiversity and habitat protection

2. Adapting to a changing climate and natural hazard management

3. Improving land management practices that influence water quality and waterway health

4. Energy efficiency and the addition of renewable energy.

The grants totalled $52,215.
