Sunchem Quality Cleaning Products fire under investigation

A ferocious blaze which gutted a business in the early hours of the morning has been branded ‘suspicious’, as detectives investigate what started the inferno.

An intense chemical fire which started in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, November 20 is under investigation.

Detectives from the Gympie Criminal Investigation Branch are treating the blaze as suspicious.

The Fire Investigation Unit is examining the site.

Emergency services were called to the Sunchem cleaning supply factory on Tozer Park Road shortly after 5am on Sunday.

It took more than three hours and five crews to contain the fire. There were no patients involved.

Police said the building and several vehicles in the surrounding area were severely damaged.

Police are appealing to anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage near Tozer Park Road between 5pm Friday, November 19 and 5am Saturday, November 20 to come forward.

A GoFundMe campaign has been started to support Sunchem.
