Teenage driver busted speeding on Wide Bay Highway at Lower Wonga

The Gympie region P-plater was on the Wide Bay Highway when Goomeri police caught up with him at Lower Wonga.

A teenage driver has allegedly been busted travelling at more than 70km/h above the speed limit.

Goomeri police stopped a Ford Everest travelling east on the Wide Bay Highway at Lower Wonga about 4.30pm on Thursday, August 1, after detecting the high range speed on mobile police radar.

The teenager was allegedly travelling at 171km/h in a 100 zone last week.

A 17-year-old male Kilkivan driver was issued a speeding ticket for $1845 and eight demerit points.

Police are urging motorists to always stick to the speed limits and drive to conditions, so everyone gets to their destination safely.
