He was headed to work at Dakabin on the outskirts of north Brisbane, but never arrived.
His silver Mitsubishi Lancer was found by four-wheel drive enthusiasts in the Imbil State Forest in dense bushland on the morning of Saturday August 6, but the group did not realise it belonged to the missing man they saw a desperate plea for help from Mr Carey’s family on social media the following day.
Rescue crews including police on foot, on motorbikes and on ATVs, SES drones and police helicopters, and mounted police were all involved in the search before it was temporarily scaled back on August 12.
