Tigerlily Boyce urges public to come forward as search for Tarci Carey continues

As police and volunteers continue to search for Tarci Carey 10 days after his abandoned car was found near Gympie, friends believe there are ‘too many pieces of the puzzle’ missing. Read the latest.

Search for 22-year-old missing man Tarci Carey

A colleague of missing Nambour man Tarci Carey has urged people to keep scouring for answers or any information they think could help with his “mysterious” and “confusing” disappearance.

Tigerlily Boyce has backed a recent appeal from police for further information in the desperate search for the 22-year-old, which is now in its 11th day.

Ms Boyce is urging people to dig through dashcam footage or come forward with anything they may remember as herself, friends and family seek answers to the baffling disappearance of the young nursery worker.

“We feel like we’re yelling into the void,” Ms Boyce said.

Ms Boyce and Mr Carey began working together at Barung Landcare three years ago.

She said he was a “bright, happy-go-lucky” person who had a “childlike wonder” and would not hurt a fly.

He showed respect to “everybody in his life”.

Mr Carey “never missed a day of work”, she said, even going so far as to cycle to work when he did not have a car.

He was “dedicated and ambitious”, Ms Boyce said, and often talked about how he was going to better his life.

Mr Carey even had “a five-to-10-year-long plan”.

“This just doesn’t make sense,” Ms Boyce said.

“There’s a logical explanation out there.

“I’ve been running over any possible scenario since Friday.

“There’s just no way that car could have gotten out there by itself.”

However she said Mr Carey’s car even being there was confounding.

She said it had “no grunt” for the rough terrain it had been driven over and “if he was planning to go out there he had a 4WD”.

“We’re all missing too many pieces of the puzzle,” Ms Boyce said.

Mr Carey was last seen at a Meditation Court home in Nambour on Friday, August 5.

On Friday August 11 police released the last known footage of Mr Carey, captured by CCTV at a Forest Glen service station about 2.10am on August 5.

This was before he drove to Meditation Court.

Ms Boyce has been one of the dozens of community members helping police scour the Brooloo State Forest near where Mr Carey’s car was found abandoned.

For the past week they had been searching the “pretty difficult” terrain for any sign of Mr Carey, an experience she said was “surreal”.

The bushland was so thick, searchers had lost sight of each other after 5m.

This included walking around out there with thoughts of what might have happened and what might be found on her mind.

Ms Boyce said she was grateful for the outpouring of support and help from the community, volunteers, police and SES.

She urged the community to please continue amplifying the call for help and information,.

Without that support the hikers who first found Mr Carey’s car on Saturday, August 6, would have never realised on Sunday anyone was looking for it.

“I can’t imagine why he’d go out there totally unprepared,” she said.

“My gut feeling is he is out there somewhere.”

“It’s so hard to be in this limbo.”

A Facebook page has now been launched to keep track of any new information regarding Mr Carey’s disappearance.

The investigation and search for Mr Carey continues.
