A 31 -year-old who challenged campers, including women, to fight him, has been sentenced in Gympie Magistrates Court.

Danny Kim Cherry was arrested for being a public nuisance March 31, 2022 at a campground at Inskip Point.

Police arrived at the campsite at about 11pm after they received multiple calls from neighbouring campers reporting that a man was walking around the area saying he wanted to fight everybody.

He left and returned to the site multiple times, each time inviting someone to fight him.

Police were directed to Cherry’s campsite where they found him standing next to a vehicle, talking to his mother who was seated inside.

Cherry and his mother admitted that it was him who was causing disturbances.

He said “thanks for dobbing me in, mum” before he was arrested and placed inside the police vehicle.

Cherry began yelling profanities and kicking the metal pod inside the police car on his way to the Gympie station.

“The whole way he was kicking the pod and yelling abuse,” Sergeant Michael Phillips told the court.

When he refused to get out of the car at the watch house police had to physically remove him and was taken to a cell.

Cherry pleaded guilty to one count of public nuisance and one count of failing to appear.

The court heard he was carer for his father who was injured in a motorbike accident.

He was sentenced to two months in jail, suspended and convictions were recorded.

For the fail to appear he was sentenced to one month in jail, also suspended.
