More than 100 fines have been handed out in a holiday crackdown on popular Queensland beaches, with drivers busted speeding, not wearing seatbelts, and drink driving. Watch the video.

A teenager busted while allegedly sitting on the passenger windowsill in an 80km/h zone is among the holiday-makers to be hit with more than 100 fines in a blitz of the region’s beaches before New Year’s Eve.

Police revealed the fine of 17-year-old boy was among 118 infringement notices handed out between December 27 and December 30 to drivers at Noosa North Shore, Teewah Beach and the Cooloola Coast as part of the crackdown.

Offenders were caught speeding, driving defective vehicles, not securing loads, and failing to wear a helmet, the media release said.

Officers also carried out 229 roadside breath tests and 23 drug tests in the four-day period.

A 23-year-old man from Bundaberg was charged with drink driving after allegedly returning a blood alcohol concentration of 0.051 per cent.

He will appear before the Gympie Magistrates Court on January 18.

Five drivers allegedly tested positive to having a relevant drug in their system.

Wide Bay District Superintendent Paul Algie said in the release officers would be out and about across the holiday break, working to keep people safe following a year in which 277 people were killed on Queensland’s roads.

“Every decision you make behind the wheel counts,” Inspector Algie said.

“We want to ensure everyone is going home to their loved ones this Christmas.

“Driving on beaches can be hazardous and dangerous.

“The surfaces are different from what most of us are used to and require drivers to take additional care.”

He said “defective or unroadworthy vehicles will be intercepted and drivers issued with infringement notices, and we make no apology for that”.

“Safety should be every motorist’s priority every time they get behind the wheel, regardless of their location,” he said.
