Campers and residents on the Cooloola Coast have been warned about planned burn operations in the Great Sandy National Park near Noosa North Shore over the weekend.

The burns are part of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife annual hazard reduction program for parks and forests, and will start on Friday, June 18, and finish on Monday, June 21.

As a result smoke may be seen in the areas of Noosa North Shore and Tewantin.

The aim of the burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas.

This will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.

Smoke can decrease visibility on the roads so it is important motorists drive to the conditions.
