The long awaited second stage of Gympie’s Bunnings development is about to get under way but mystery surrounds which business will call it home.
Developers have been given the green light to begin construction of a new warehouse across the carpark from the popular hardware shop, which is expected to become home to multiple businesses.
The building was approved by Gympie Regional Council in 2012 as part of the wider Bunnings development as stage two of the project.
Under those plans the building will have room for three tenants; the northwestern portion containing a showroom and shop.
Bunnings sold the land in 2014 to Cooloola Enterprises for $1.32 million.
Cooloola Enterprises then took a $65,000 loss when it sold the block to Moorooka-based Fajima in July 2020 for $1.26 million.
Fajima owns commercial developments in Darra and Capalaba.
Which companies will set up shop once the building is finished remains a mystery, with social media speculation suggesting Spotlight will call it home.
Spotlight did not respond to a request asking it to confirm or deny the claims.
The building adds to a growing list of developments across the region including multiple subdivisions at the Southside and a landmark four-storey aged care centre approved in early 2021.
