The discovery of a 4WD half-submerged floodwaters at the Mary Valley has prompted plenty of questions on social media, but few answers.
Resident Caral Nerea shared images of the partly sunk vehicle in floodwaters at Amamoor Creek Crossing Number Eight, about 25km south of Gympie, on Thursday afternoon along with questions as to how it wound up there and if anybody “knows anything about it?”.
The footage shows rapidly moving floodwater washing around the car, which is sunk front first into the creek.
The region has been inundated with heavy rainfall for the past week, including a downpour on Wednesday afternoon and night.
The wild weather has flooded rivers and creeks across Gympie and the South Burnett, and forced the Gympie council to shut the Kidd Bridge across the Mary River after it was flooded.
Ms Nerea’s post was met with similar questions from those who saw it, and the region’s authorities likewise do not have any clear answers as to how the 4WD wound up in the waterways.
Police said they had no reports in the past seven days of anyone needing to be rescued from the area, and firefighters confirmed they had not been called to any swift water rescues in the vicinity either.
