Labor candidate for Gympie 2024, Lachlan Anderson said this week he was a fourth-generation resident of Gympie and understood the region’s issues well.

A “casual academic” and project officer has announced he will contest the seat of Gympie for Labor at the Queensland state election on October 26, 2024.

Lachlan Anderson said this week he was a fourth-generation resident of Gympie and understood the region’s issues well.

The seat is currently held by LNP MP Tony Perrett, and is considered a safe National Party seat.

“Growing up in Gympie, I have witnessed the region being impacted by floods, fires, and other natural disasters, which taught me the value of a reliable government in tough times,” he said.

“I’m running for office because I recognise the need for a better future for young people and local families. I believe in the Miles Labor Government’s plan to build this future in Gympie by supporting families with affordable housing, providing secure employment opportunities, and investing in critical local infrastructure.”

Mr Anderson, 33, said he was proud to be a part of the Labor team dedicated to delivering essential services to Queenslanders and helping them every single day.

“I along with the Labor team are committed to securing Queensland’s future for generations to come and creating opportunities in Gympie so that local families can share in the state’s success,” he said.

“The Miles Labor government has provided record cost of living relief and continues to make historic investments in frontline health services, housing, and the energy transition.”

Mr Anderson attended Gympie South State Primary School, Gympie State High School, and University of the Sunshine Coast, and holds a Bachelor of Arts and completed his postgraduate studies with a Degree in Migration Law at the Victoria University.

He said he joined the ALP in 2014, in order to be more informed as a young citizen on policy.

“The most important thing that I value in life is treating people the way that you would like to be treated. I highly value family, community and culture,” he said.

“Taking action on the cost of living is my number one priority. That’s why I am running as part of a Miles Labor Team that is delivering record cost of living relief to Gympie locals, including: $1000 rebate for every Queensland household and $1372 for seniors and vulnerable Queenslanders to be applied as a credit to your electricity bill from 1 July 2024, 50c fares from August 5, 2024 as a flat-rate for every trip on Translink services.

“Taking pressure off household budgets and busting congestion on our roads, 20 per cent off car rego appearing on bills from August 5, 2024 and applying from September 16, 2024 and $650 off energy bills for small businesses in Queensland,” he said.

“This is the biggest cost of living relief package ever for Queensland - helping with household bills and putting downward pressure on inflation”.

“Delivering record investment in jobs growth and supporting the workers of the future with free TAFE, renewable energy jobs, our big build including new schools and school facilities, new hospitals, hospital expansions and thousands of new essential workers all across Queensland,” he said.
