Gympie residents will have the chance to take part in a milestone moment on the $1 billion Bruce Hwy Bypass before it opens to traffic.
The Transport Department is hosting a community open day on Saturday, August 17, 2024, with the public invited to join staff for a family friendly day at the Flood Rd interchange, near the southern end of the Bypass.
A TMR spokesman said in a release on Friday the event would “give the community a unique opportunity to walk on the new highway before it is open to traffic”.
The event will include informative displays and, entertainment, with food and drink on offer.

Residents keen on joining the event are being asked to register their interest at the department’s website, under the Section D link.
People who do not register will not be turned away, the spokesman said.
Registrations close on July 12.
Information on the event line-up and parking will be released later.
The Bypass is due to be finished and open to traffic by the end of 2024, weather permitting.
State Transport Minister Bart Mellish said in the release the four-year construction of the Bypass had “overcome a long list of challenges like a world-wide pandemic, several floods and supply chain issues, only to power ahead and here we are, ready to open it up for the community to get involved in the celebrations”.
