The Kingaroy Netball Association threw a ‘Go Gold for Gympie’ fundraiser on Friday to help raise money to get Gympie netball back on its feet after floodwaters destroyed the Hyne Street courts and historic home of the sport in Gympie.
Raging flood waters left the courts severely cracked and needing a $500,000 rebuild, so the sport has been forced to find alternative arrangements until that happens.

Gympie teams did not start their season until May and are playing on the courts at Victory College and Gympie State High School.
Kingaroy Netball Association has held carnivals with Gympie teams in 2019 and 2021, and took the initiative during the week to raise funds through a ‘Go Gold for Gympie’ dress-up and gold-coin donation.
Gympie Netball Association president Colleen Miller said she had no idea of the fundraiser until she was tagged in the Kingaroy club’s Facebook post.
“I was very surprised and very grateful,” she said.
The Kingaroy volunteers held a sausage sizzle, raffle and canteen on Friday for gold coin donations to go towards Gympie’s netball recovery.
