Gympie District Court has played the recording of a 000 call on Tuesday which was made the night a Cooloola Cove man allegedly attacked two women.

The 47-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged with committing two counts of common assault occasioning bodily harm, two counts of choking and one count of common assault in 2018.

The jury heard several recordings of evidence from a woman and her teenage daughter, including a recording of the woman making a 000 call where she told the operator the man had assaulted her daughter when she tried to intervene.

“He’s just thrown my ... daughter on the floor,” she said in the recording.

A distorted male voice can be heard in the background.

Defence lawyer Simone Bain questioned the woman in another recording of evidence, noting she had made no mention of herself being assaulted in the 000 call, just her daughter.

The woman responded that she was primarily worried about her daughter’s safety at that time.

“I’m the mother,” she said while sobbing on the recording.

“So, she was first and foremost ... if she’s down there, I’m worried she’s hurt.”

The daughter said in a recording played to the court of her evidence that the man had picked her up by the waist and thrown her to the side headfirst.

“He just picked me up and threw me against the wall,” she said.

When questioned about a second incident that escalated into an alleged choking, the alleged victim said the argument started over an explicit photo the man kept in his bedside table.

She said he had also threatened to leave her and take their 16-month-old son with him.

“He always threatens to do it, both in previous arguments, and yeah,” she said.

This led to her taking the keys to the house, which the defendant had taken with him to the bathroom, the court heard.

She said after escaping out the bathroom door into the hallway, the defendant caught her and put his hands around her neck.

She also said this was witnessed by his son and her daughter.

The trial continues in Gympie District Court on Wednesday, May 12.
