Gympie Hammers president Jason McPherson was blown away at the weekend when a young man from the Noosa Dolphins offered a random act of kindness at the Albert Park fields.
Mr McPherson was setting up the fields for Saturday’s home ground action when he heard “a voice in (his) ear”.
“‘Excuse me Mr, do you want a hand to set up the fields?’ This young gentleman’s name is Lachie Jacka, he’s not from Gympie, he’s from the Noosa Dolphins. What a champion young man,” Mr McPherson said.
“I hear today that Lachie does not even play rugby but he helps his brothers team train and set up.
“Lachie Jacka, You are the best thing that’s happened in my rugby week.
“Thanks for the reminder of what it’s all about.”
The story proved very popular with the Hammers’ Facebook followers, with Zoe Griffen saying it had also made her week.
“A rugby club/community is made up of more than those that take the field…. well done Lachie. You are everything that is the Dolphin spirit,” Ms Griffen wrote.
“Love it well done young man and thanks for sharing, this is the spirit of rugby and community, and we all know we can do with more of this in our lives,” Wendy Leigh Jordan added.

Lachie’s dad Justin said his son was “very embarrassed by the attention as he thinks that is just what you should do”.
Mr Jacka added that Lachie, who played school rugby this season, hoped to be a Noosa Dolphins player in 2022.
