Wide Bay MP and Deputy House Speaker Llew O’Brien has announced an East Deep Creek road will be closed for the next two months as the long-awaited Gympie Bypass project progresses.
Mr O’Brien said contractors had met with property owners near Flood Rd at East Deep Creek to advise them of the closure, and to make arrangements for them to safely access their properties.
“I encourage all drivers to please pay attention to the changed conditions around these works, to be alert to road workers, follow traffic control directions and be courteous to other road users,” Mr O’Brien said.

“I acknowledge this road closure, and other works to build Section D, will cause some inconvenience to road users, however, this is a vitally important project that will save lives on the Bruce Highway and open up Wide Bay’s economy for future growth.”
The $1 billion Cooroy to Curra Section D project was expected to support approximately 576 direct jobs throughout the construction phase and is expected to be complete by mid-2024.
