The first 7-Eleven service station under construction on the Southside is about a month off opening as the company searches for candidates to fill the jobs available.
The store, located on Exhibition Rd at Southside, is expected to open in June 2023, a 7-Eleven spokesperson said.
The spokesman said the upcoming multi-pump station was a part of the company’s investment to “providing regional Queenslanders with the same level of choice and convenience available to people across metropolitan areas”.
Upon completion, the service station will create up to 15 full-time, part-time and casual jobs and Gympie residents have already started applying for the team positions, the spokesperson said.
7-Eleven Retail Area Lead North Jeff Yerbury said the company would provide full training for those who landed a job.
“We’re really excited to be joining the community in Gympie by making an investment that will create jobs and help drive economic growth for the area,” he said.
“Specific convenience and petrol experience isn’t required to build a career in our organisation.
“We would like to speak to locals who have strong people skills, can deliver excellent service and a high standard in our stores using our proven processes, with a focus on safety and store presentation.”
The block sits on a busy intersection on Exhibition Road, beside Gympie South State School and opposite the Jockey Club Hotel.
The Southside store previously occupied the site, but was bulldozed to make way for the 7-Eleven station.
Several changes to the intersection have been under construction for some time, and traffic has been disrupted through the intersection while that works accelerates.
On top of fuel and essentials, the shelves inside the store will be stacked with food including handmade sandwiches and wraps as well as Krispy Kreme doughnuts.
The company’s popular Slurpee machines will be set up as well as its new smoothie machines.
Mr Yerbury said applications were accepted through their online portal.
