7-Eleven to open mid-2023, intersection changes revealed

There are some interesting changes being made to accommodate traffic to and from the new 7-Eleven which will share a busy intersection with the Jockey Club Hotel, and the entrance to the Southside shopping centre.

The first 7-Eleven in Gympie, sitting on a busy intersection at Southside, is expected to open in mid-2023, and bring changes to traffic on the already busy Exhibition Road.

The multi-pump service station is being built beside the Gympie South School and adjacent to the Jockey Club Hotel. The old corner store was bulldozed ahead of construction.

“The store will have the standard 7-Eleven range of food, fuel and essentials, and will be open 24/7 to serve the local community,” a 7-Eleven spokesperson said.

Our Gympie store will have Krispy Kreme as well as other fresh food like our handmade sandwiches and wraps delivered daily.

“There will be Slurpee machines, and our new Smoothie machine.”

The new station would be able to hold 17 cars in queue and would provide nine onsite parking spaces.

The project is part of the 7-Eleven company’s “multimillion dollar investment in providing regional Australians with access to the same choice and convenience as is available to people in metro areas”.

The store is expected to provide at least 10 jobs.

A traffic response report prepared by TTM Consulting Pty Ltd depicted the proposed changes to the intersection, as discussed with the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

These changes include a religned kerb and a left-turn slip lane entering the service station.

The entry-only lane will be established between the traffic lights at the Exhibition Road and Ramsay Road intersection; a left-only exit will be location about 30m west of the intersection.

The traffic lights will continue to operate for through and right-turn traffic and U-turns are not expected to be impacted, the report said.

The diagrams show a pedestrian crossing to be included on the right-hand side.

The spokesperson said the site was being developed by Spring Projects, and built by Hutchinson.

“We are looking forward to celebrating with the local community,” they said.
