Gympie Race Day: RSL Club Cup 2022

Fabulous fashions and fierce competition will come together at The Gympie Times Ladies Race Day on Saturday, September 17.

The event will be held at the Gympie Turf Club on the Southside, with a variety of ticket options ranging from $30 to $250.

Gates open at 11am with races set to begin at 1pm.

Unfortunately, due to the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, special guest Lisa Millar has been called to London and will no longer be attending.

Despite this unfortunate change in programming, guests at the Ladies Long Lunch are set to be tickled pink by local comedian Anna Brennan.

Ms Millar, who co-hosts ABC News Breakfast, started her journalism career as a cadet reporter at The Gympie Times and went to school in Gympie and Kilkivan.

The Gympie Times and Wide Bay Burnett editor Shelley Strachan said she was disappointed to lose her old friend to the biggest story of the decade, but she was sure it would not detract from the enjoyment of the day.

“I love comedy and what better way to accompany a nice champagne, some great local horse racing action, friends and family trackside?” Ms Strachan said.

“Besides, now we have next year to look forward to getting Lisa up here.”

Gympie Turf Club president Shane Gill said the day would be one to remember.

“It’s a great day for the ladies to get out, get dressed up and have a day at the track,” Mr Gill said.

“It should be great weather, it’s always a great day.”
