The extent and aftermath of the weekend’s flooding across the Gympie region has been laid bare in a series of photos captured by pilot Paul McKeown.
Mr McKeown, the head of operations of Wide Bay Air Charter and The recreational Flying Company, said the scenes were reminiscent of the 2013 floods.
“While we’ve seen the Mary River flood before this is quite a spectacular event,” Mr McKeown said.
“But while spectacular from the air as community members our thoughts always turn to those people affected on the ground.”
The widespread flooding across the Wide Bay, not only directly north and east of Gympie but at Maryborough, has been devastating to residents including the death of a 22-year-old man.
