Gympie crime: suburb breakdown reveals traffic, drugs, theft most common crimes

From Goomeri to Rainbow Beach and the Mary Valley, crime data from the past 12 months has revealed the Gympie region suburbs where you are most likely to get assaulted or robbed, and the suburbs where drug crimes dominate. SEE THE FULL BREAKDOWN:

Domestic violence cases rise during pandemic

Drugs, traffic offences and theft have been revealed as the most common crimes of the more than 3700 offences recorded across the Gympie region in the past 12 months.

Police data for the year from January 26, 2021 to January 25, 2022 reveal more than 700 thefts (not including break and entry), 500 drug related crimes and 500 traffic related crimes were recorded across 90 suburbs.

Gympie itself was home to 1700 recorded crimes, the most common of which was theft.

The trend changed on the Southside, where the most common offences among the 285 recorded incidents were traffic related.

On the Cooloola Coast, theft was the most recorded crime at Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach, whereas at Cooloola Cove the most frequently laid charges were assault.

In the Mary Valley drug related crimes were the most common.

Wednesday through Friday were the days most Gympie region offenders were charged, with midnight unsurprisingly the most common time of day the crimes were committed.

Only one homicide was recorded in the past year, at Tuchekoi.
