A man in his 60s was airlifted to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in the early hours of Australia Day after a van collided with a tree on the Kandanga Imbil Rd.
The man was the only occupant of the vehicle when the crash occurred near the disused Imbil rubbish tip just before 6am on January 26, 2022.
He had to be cut free from the wrecked vehicle.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said he suffered “significant” injuries to his leg, lower abdomen and chest.
The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) flight paramedic assisted local ambulance officers, who were already at the scene.
He was flown to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital about 7am, in what Lifeflight described as a serious but stable condition.
The road was cut and a detour established while emergency services were working to free the man, with the rescue helicopter forced to land on the road near the crash scene.
